Pluralism in the New Church
Presenter: Eleanor Schnarr
Description: Historically, people from many different spiritual and religious backgrounds have been drawn to the works of Emanuel Swedenborg. As a movement, our embrace of variety in worship and spiritual practice is one of our greatest assets. The diversity of the Heavenly form in Swedenborg's metaphysics is what allows this amazing dynamism in thought and identity. This workshop will look at this doctrine and in the way that it has manifested itself historically.

Finding My Divine Mother
Presenter: Tirah Keal
Description: In my mid 30’s I began struggling with my relationship with God. How can I rely on a being that doesn’t know what it’s like to be me? The God I had been guided to know is not someone who has first-hand experience with the mess and pain of menstruation, the anxiety of trying to become pregnant, or avoiding pregnancy. God is supposed to understand and Love me, but how would a male God have compassion for a woman having a miscarriage, or trying to accept that she’s pregnant again, though she didn’t want to be? Not to mention that I wanted to know that God knew what my life felt like in all its minuscule hurts, restricted, lonely, overwhelming, and exhausting. I knew I had suffered in my life, but I didn’t know if God understood my suffering. I knew I had to either find God anew or would lose my faith. I dove deep into the scriptures, and the journey was revelatory. I am delighted to have this opportunity to share with you the blessing of coming to know my heavenly Mother and the infinite love She has for us and the wisdom She has to give to us all.

A Taste of Logopraxis - Session 1
Presenter: Ros Taylor
Description: “Logopraxis simply means “to practice the Word” and describes an approach to engaging with truths of Divine revelation as the basis for a daily spiritual practice. Logopraxis not only offers a framework for personal inner work and spiritual growth through integrating spiritual truths into life but it also offers a basis for cultivating a deeper sense of spiritual community through its online and face to face small group networks.” Participants will choose between a Bible passage and a Swedenborg passage as the text they will use for Logopraxis. We will follow the process of working with the text to develop a personal spiritual growth task to use in the next session.
Note: Those already familiar with the Logopraxis practice are welcome to prepare a passage on their own, and join the second session on Saturday morning.
Location: Pastor's Office or Outdoors (weather permitting.)
Johnny Appleseed
Presenter: Robbin Ferriman
Description: My presentation will be on the faith of John Chapman/Appleseed. As a Swedenborgian I believe he understood the correspondences in nature to the spirit world, and that it was reflected in his relationship with God and others. This is revealed in the stories that people told about Johnny Appleseed, in the way he spoke about his beloved apples as well as his "Good news fresh from heaven."

Outgrowing Patriarchal Influences
Presenter: Linda Simonetti Odhner
Description: Patriarchal thinking lurks in unexpected places and takes surprising forms, and I often overlook it in my own attitudes, until I begin to outgrow them. The grip of male-dominated power structures on society may be loosening, yet they may still leave an unconscious imprint on our vision of life. I plan to focus on where we are still tripping over patriarchal thinking today, and on recognizing its presence so we can move past it.

The Poison of Internalized Misogyny
Presenter: Rebecca Esterson
Description: Our tradition teaches that religious life requires us to examine our own will and intentions, to reflect inwardly rather than merely focusing on the sins of others. We will take the opportunity in this session to consider the pitfalls of internalized misogyny, or the ways we as women have learned to distrust, criticize, or condemn other women and ourselves. We will ask: what are the aspects of our religious teachings that support and value women, and what are the potential obstacles in this regard? How can we learn to notice and silence the inner voices of judgment that get in the way of our flourishing and the flourishing of our sisters?
